Kiwibox Interview with Nolan

Kiwibox.com has posted a great interview with Nolan Gerard Funk. He talks about his first time in a studio recording the album, filming the movie, his favourite parts of the movie, comparing the movies to High School Musical and other musicals, about following your dreams, his upcoming projects and much more. It's really informative interview, and over 8 minutes long! There's also an article on their website about Nolan and the movie Spectacular!

First, my favourite quotes from the interview:
"I would also say that shooting Break My Heart was definitely one of my favourite parts. It's this old rock and roll song..."

"Quite frankly, I would be thrilled if we were as successful and found our audience they way that High School Musical did. I think Spectacular is really unique in its edge. I think, ya know, my character Nikko has a pretty dry sense of humour and it's pretty sarcastic, and definitely keeps it real. SO that's something about the film that I'm really proud of.

"... the songs don't really narrate the story. That its more of a music movie. I mean, I guess you could call it a musical, but not really. I mean, it's sort of more a coming-of-age, coming-of-rockstar story."

"It's that universal idea of following your dream, whether it be becoming an astronaut, or becoming an engineer or becoming a rockstar."

"It was incredible, I mean I've never sang for a live audience before..."
(about his Hard Rock performance, and the history of the place) "...I definitely felt proud to be sweating in the same space."

And the article at Kiwibox.com:
Over the past few years, High School Musical fans have gone cuckoo for the Disney phenomenon. And why wouldn't they? The films have got everything and more: talented (and good-looking) actors and actresses, catchy songs and characters that are impossible to hate. But as HSM mania's expiration date rapidly approaches, Nickelodeon's got the cure for the inevitable HSM blues. Their forthcoming made-for-TV musical Spectacular!, set to premiere on February 16, is the perfect antidote, with plenty of singing, dancing and acting for your viewing entertainment. And while the movie is going to be one heck of a ride, it's got a star that's bound to steal the heart of every teenage girl across the nation. Allow us to introduce to you the star of tomorrow: Nolan Gerard Funk.

The actor, hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, stars in Spectacular as the Nickelodeon answer to Zac Efron with his camera-friendly good looks, sharp acting skills and magnetic personality. In the film, he plays Nikko Alexander, an aspiring rock singer that ends up in a lame choir dubbed Spectacular in his quest for fame. And while the role required him to be on his acting A-game, he went through vigorous training for the part (though he claims he's been singing his entire life), with vocal coaches and voice lessons helping him hone his chops. And if you listen to the film's soundtrack (as an integral part of the film, almost all of the music is original), you'll hear that all his hard work paid off, with songs like "Don't Tell Me" and "Break My Heart" playing as slick as anything on the radio. With the release date of Specatular! right around the corner, Nolan is prepared to enter what could very well be the most important point in his career.

Nolan's role as Nikko in Spectacular might be his breakout performance, but his fame has been steadily building ever since he started acting as a young boy. Though he's only 22, he's been gracing the small and big screens since he was 13, having appeared on television shows like Supernatural, Smallville and Aliens in America as well as in Hollywood blockbusters like X2 in '03. Not only that, but you might have seen Nolan pop up in other places, too. He plays the love interest in the music video for Miranda Cosgrove's "Stay My Baby," and he can be seen in a handful of upcoming silver screen-bound films like the horror flick Malevolence and Triple Dog. With all these projects on the calendar and a few more in the works (he said he can't spill the beans yet on a few big projects), you're guaranteed to hear a lot more from this multi-talented entertainer this year.

Nolan was recently in New York City to perform at the Hard Rock Live in Times Square, his first time performing a concert in front of a live crowd (he claims it was "freakin' awesome" and was proud to be "sweating" in the same space). A few days after rocking the stage, Nolan caught up with Senior Editor Steven to have a quick chat, discussing what he makes of the comparisons being made of about the upcoming film Spectacular to High School Musical, how he prepared for his role as Nikko Alexander in the film, whether or not he would consider pursuing a singing career outside of acting and where we can expect to see his face pop up in the next couple of months.
